FAQPage Schema

FAQPage schema is a specific type of structured data that marks up a page's question-and-answer content so search engines and AI systems can identify each Q&A pair.
Detailed Explanation

FAQPage schema wraps each question and its answer in labelled markup, so a machine reading the page does not have to guess where one ends and the next begins. It turns a visually obvious structure into an explicitly stated one.

Its value for AEO is extraction. A model looking for an answer prefers a clean, self-contained question-and-answer pair over a paragraph it has to interpret and trim. Marked-up FAQ content is among the easiest content on any site to lift accurately.

Two conditions matter. The marked-up answer must be visible on the page — hiding content in schema that users cannot see is a policy violation and generally backfires. And the answer should stand alone: if it only makes sense after reading the paragraph above it, it will be quoted out of context and misunderstood.

Why It Matters

FAQPage schema is the lowest-effort, highest-certainty structural change available for AEO. It costs an afternoon, requires no new writing, and directly addresses the format answer engines find easiest to reuse — which is why it is usually the first thing worth adding.

Example

A pricing page lists six common questions with plain answers below each, wrapped in FAQPage schema. Asked what the tool costs for a small team, an assistant quotes the relevant answer almost verbatim. The same information existed before in a comparison table — but a table is a layout, not a statement, and models struggle to quote it.
