Brand Query

A Brand query directly names a company or product, such as "Is [Brand] legitimate?" or "What does [Brand] do?"
Detailed Explanation

A brand query is the easiest of the four intent types to appear in, because the person asking has already handed the model the answer. The work is not being chosen — it is being described correctly.

That makes brand queries a test of accuracy rather than competitiveness. The failure mode is not absence but distortion: a model that places you in the wrong category, attributes a feature you do not have, or hedges because your own sources contradict each other.

Because they are easy to win, brand queries also inflate every aggregate metric they are included in. A citation rate built mostly on brand questions looks healthy while saying almost nothing about whether new buyers can find you.

Why It Matters

Brand queries are the floor, not the goal. Failing them means AI systems cannot correctly identify who you are, which undermines every other query type. Passing them proves only that the foundation is sound — the buyers who matter most have not typed your name yet.

Example

Asked "what is LazyCats AI," a model should return a clean, accurate sentence. If it instead describes a web design agency — because the company shares a name with one — the brand query has technically been answered and commercially been lost.

Synonims
