Zero-Click Search

A search where the user gets their answer directly on the results page and never clicks through to a website.
Detailed Explanation

A zero-click search happens when a search engine or AI Overview answers the query directly in the results — via a featured snippet, knowledge panel, or AI-generated summary — so the user never visits a website. Zero-click searches have grown sharply as AI Overviews and answer engines became standard in search results.

Why It Matters

Zero-click searches explain why rankings can stay stable while organic traffic falls: you may still be the cited source, just without the click.
