SERP

SERP stands for Search Engine Results Page — the page displayed after running a search, containing organic listings, ads, and features like AI Overviews.
Detailed Explanation

Modern SERPs increasingly include AI-generated elements alongside traditional links, meaning ranking well organically is only one part of gaining visibility on the page.

The practical effect is that the ten blue links keep moving down. Ads, an AI Overview, related questions and other features now sit above them, so a first-place organic result can appear below the fold on a phone. Ranking has not stopped mattering — it has stopped being the same thing as being seen.

Why It Matters

As SERPs incorporate more AI-generated content, appearing in the AI Overview section is becoming as important as ranking in the traditional organic listings below it.

Example

A search for "best AEO tools" might return an AI Overview, a few ads, and a list of organic results — all competing for the same searcher's attention on one SERP.
