SEO
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the set of practices used to help a website rank higher in organic (non-paid) search results on engines like Google and Bing. It covers technical factors (crawlability, site speed, structured data), on-page factors (title tags, headers, keyword usage), and off-page factors (backlinks, brand mentions). SEO remains the foundation that AEO and GEO build on: AI systems still rely on crawlable, well-structured, authoritative content to generate answers.
Even as AI answer engines grow, most AI models retrieve from the same indexed web that search engines crawl. A site with weak SEO fundamentals is also harder for AI to find, understand, and cite.
How is AEO different from SEO?
SEO optimises for a ranked list of links. AEO optimises for being the source a generated answer draws on. Page one holds ten results; an answer cites four.
Do I still need SEO?
Yes. AEO is additive, not a replacement. Most of the technical foundation is shared, and AI engines lean heavily on sources that already rank in search.
Isn't this just SEO with new branding?
It's a fair suspicion, and plenty of tools are guilty of it. But what we measure isn't in any index — there's no public dataset of what ChatGPT cited.
How do you compare to Ahrefs, Semrush or Search Console?
They're better than us at everything they do — keyword research, backlink data, rank tracking, crawl diagnostics at scale. Keep them.
